Global sponsorship, recruitment and talent management specialists Sporting Group International (SGI) has appointed experienced sports marketing and partnerships expert Diego Pesque as its Country Manager in Spain.
Pesque was formerly Director of Marketing for La Liga football club SD Huesca, where he managed all club partners and their activation strategies, whilst also leading on brand marketing, digital media and communications, and commercial opportunities in international markets.
He previously enjoyed a 13-year career in marketing in the finance sector, representing blue chip brands including Barclays, Legal & General and Santander.
“Having worked in-house at a La Liga club for more than three years, Diego is the ideal person to drive forwards the development of SGI in the Spanish market,” said SGI Group Chief Executive Adrian Wright.
“Not only has he achieved significant commercial growth in the sports industry, but he possesses great industry contacts through his work for some of the most recognisable brands in Spain and the UK.
“We’re very excited to welcome him to the SGI team.”
SGI has its global headquarters in Birmingham (UK) city centre, but in the last two years it has expanded its presence within Spain, Germany and Italy, in addition to its long-standing Asia operation in New Delhi, India. It also recently outlined its ambitions to become a sports industry leader in environmental and sustainability practices by partnering with Final Third.
Diego Pesque said: “Having spoken in depth to Adrian about this opportunity, I’m very excited to join SGI and to help the organisation build on the strong growth that it has achieved in recent years.
“Many people within the sports industry are taking note of the fantastic work that SGI is doing for professional sports clubs, governing bodies and brands and I believe that there is huge potential to enhance these opportunities in the Spanish market.
“Additionally, it’s great to join an organisation that is developing its operations in the right way. It’s committed to working in the most environmentally sustainable methods possible and to helping the sports industry do better. I’m looking forward to playing my part.”
